In the Gordon College men’s soccer game over Homecoming weekend, the quad was packed with students, parents, and alumni as Gordon earned its 7th win of the season against the Curry Colonels (6-4-1, 1-2 CCC).

It was a slow start, but the Fighting Scots scored in the 15th minute, courtesy of Ian Burkhart ’19, who smoothly dribbled into the box and placed his shot into the upper left corner.

Burkhart quickly added a second goal, putting away a cross from Tyler Modzeleski ’19 in the 20th minute. Gordon held the Colonels to just one shot for the remainder of the half and comfortably carried their 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Scots picked up where they left off, allowing Curry only one shot in the first 25 minutes of the half.

Gordon continued their roll in the second half until Ben Gradert ’18 received his second yellow card resulting in an ejection, leaving his team to play a man down for the remainder of the game. Playing with only 10 men, Gordon’s defense stepped up big time, allowing just two shots on goal.

Freshman keeper Wesley Sprague ’21 made a few incredible saves to earn the shutout victory. After the game, forward Danny Nkhalamba ‘19 said about the game, “It was a tough game, but we knew we had a good chance of beating them.”

The Scots did just that. Looking forward, Nkhalamba said he is excited to see the team grow.

“We are looking forward to the games left on the schedule as we move into more conference games,” said Nkhalamba.
