With graduation creeping up much faster than I anticipated, my time at The Tartan has come to a close with our last issue of the academic year. This publication has carried me throughout my time at Gordon. Other times, it’s chewed me out and spit me up; the world of journalism is so thoughtful and thoughtless at the same time. Nevertheless, The Tartan has been one of my most prized possessions in my last three years at school. Moving from the rural cornfields of Pennsylvania to the seemingly never-ending beaches of the North Shore had been my dream come true—Gordon was all that I prayed for. The fact that The Tartan accompanied me in my college years has been such a gift. My laughter–and my tears–are all over the stories of the monthly issues I have assisted and crafted for the past three years.
I want to thank our advisor Tim Morgan for accompanying me in the many challenges, praises, burnouts, and joy that have taken place surrounding this work. As a previous Editor of Christianity Today and a Gordon-grad, he understands the world of journalism and college media like no other. I want to thank Tim for believing in me even through my college turmoil (and major senioritis). I want to thank him for seeing something in my writing and creative tendencies that I-myself didn’t always see.
Secondly, I’d like to thank Becca Shemenski, my Managing Editor, for always rising to the task at hand. Her multi-fasitated, photographer, rock-climbing, article writing, and comic drawing self is ever-increasing in quality and value. She often works on five creative projects at a time and still finds a way to get them all done to the best that they can be. She is unbelievably capable of rising to Editor-in-Chief in the coming semester alongside Joanna Graves that will be taking over the Managing Editor role. I’m so thankful to the team of photographers, interns, designers, and writers that have filled this publication with the work of their hearts. Never stop crafting, and I say the same to myself.
Thank you to my Lord for thoughtfully handing me a platform through The Tartan to glorify You through my own creations.
Love and etc.,
Presley Beal
Editor-in-Chief
