Men’s Basketball

Head Coach: Tod Murphy (8th season)

Previous Season: 12W-14L

Matchups to watch:

11/30/16 vs. Eastern Nazarene (5:30pm, Bennett Center)

2/4/17 vs. Endicott (3:00pm, Bennett Center)

Players to watch:

Garrisson Duvivier ’19

Eric Demers ‘19

Even though they were a young and inexperienced team last season, the Scots still made waves, gathering a 9-9 CCC record. This year, with nearly all of the team’s regulars returning, a major step forward is possible. Sam Johnson ‘17 is the team’s top rebounder and a vocal on-court leader. Forward Garrisson Duvivier ‘19 displayed his versatility last season and has the potential to make the jump into the top tier of CCC players. Jaren Yang ‘18 and Eric Demers ‘19 anchor an increasingly lethal backcourt that spread the floor for the big men inside. A more experienced Gordon squad could be in line for a deep tournament run.

Women’s Basketball

Head Coach: Carter Shaw (1st season)

Previous Season: 6W-19L

Matchups to watch:

1/17/17 vs. Wentworth (7:30pm, Bennett Center)

1/31/17 vs. Curry (7:30pm, Bennett Center)

Players to watch:

Kristen Smith ‘18

Jamie Tafoya ‘19

Transitioning into a new era of Gordon Women’s Basketball under new coach Carter Shaw, the team will no doubt shoot for a CCC Tournament appearance. Forward Kristen Smith ’18, the leading scorer last season, is a force on both sides of the ball. Gordon has also displayed the ability to pass the ball, led by guards Olivia Stark ’19 and Sophie Linnell ’18. Finishing just one win out of a playoff spot last year, a new-look system could provide the spark to take the next step into the Tournament.

Women’s Swimming

Head Coach: Skip Milne (10th season)

Previous Season: 5th of 21 at New England Championships

Meets to watch:

11/12/16 vs. Western New England (12:00pm, Bennett Center)

1/17/17 vs. UNE (1:00pm, Bennett Center)

Swimmer to watch:

Alexa Bragg ’18

Another squad that has enjoyed recent success, the Gordon women hope to build on an impressive fifth at last year’s championships. Alexa Bragg ’18, the school record holder of all backstroke events, headlines a deep field of swimmers. Megan David ’19, Caris Lyons ’19 and Amber Collard ’20 add to Gordon’s potential. The team may have a lot to live up to, but with quality swimmers from top to bottom, Gordon Women’s Swimming could compete by the time the New England Championships arrive in February.

Men’s Swimming

Head Coach: Skip Milne (10th season)

Previous Season: 6th of 12 at New England Championships

Meets to watch:

11/19/16 vs. Bridgewater State (1:00pm, Bennett Center)

1/17/17 vs. UNE (1:00pm, Bennett Center)

Swimmer to watch:

Dean Drukker ’17

The team’s recent history bodes well – every school record has been set in the last three seasons. However, most of those record-setters have since graduated, leaving a young core of swimmers to lead Gordon into the next era. Dean Drukker ’17, a distance swimmer who holds Gordon records in the 1000 Freestyle and 1650 Freestyle as well as several relays, will be the one to watch this season. Jack Cicchelli ’18 is another swimmer who could make a splash as the season gets rolling.
