Men’s lacrosse was picked to finish ninth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Scots finished eighth last season, and received 11 points. They are hoping to get back in the conference tournament. Defending CCC champion Endicott was picked to finish second with 75 points and Western New England was picked to finish first.
Two top scorers Nicolas Palandijan (‘18) and Nico Manganiello (‘18) are returning to the field with a good balance of experienced players and talented new guys. Last year Palandjian led the team with 42 goals and tied for the team lead with 13 assists while Manganiello scored 32 goals and dished out seven assists.
Defender Tyler Pauls (‘20) is back to lock in on defense along with junior Chris Thanopoulos (‘19).
Jay Gallipo is another returner. As goalkeeper, Gallipo played in 13 games last season and was ranked ninth in the CCC in saves with 109 but still wants more. “My personal goals for this season are to be All-Conference this season as well as to improve my save percentage from 50% last year to 55% this year” says Gallipo.
The team has obstacles to overcome and have to adjust to a new head coach in the process. Bill Bodwell came to Gordon from Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine. He left that head coaching job after five years.
The Scots welcomed him with open arms. “He has included us in decision making. The way we play has been very much designed to fit the players we have on the team rather than trying to make the players match the system. That has definitely contributed to the effectiveness of our team and the more positive team atmosphere” says Gallipo.
The Fighting Scots open the season Feb. 24 at home against Maine Maritime. They will play two games in Pennsylvania during spring break. They open CCC play against Nichols at home March 24.
The Women’s Lacrosse team may have lost ten seniors, but they gained a fistful of new players.

Last year, the Fighting Scots finished fifth for the ‘17 season. Rivals Endicott placed first, but this year, they plan on giving them a run for their money. “Our team goals this year are to be “all in” in everything we do (on and off the field) and to “fight for one more” says senior, Zita Nagel (‘18).
She adds, “Whether that be doing one more sprint, one more ground ball, or one more save. Our team is looking to help one another get better and fight ‘til the finish.”
Gordon returns two-time All-CCC Second Team players: Nagel (‘18) and junior attacker, Olivia McCarrick (‘19). McCarrick led the CCC with 59 goals and was ranked fifth in assists with 26 last season.
Nagel is back on the defensive line after starting 13 games last season.
Sophomore Goalkeeper, Melanie Dwyer (‘20), also returns. She played in 16 games last season and ranked fifth in the CCC with 123 saves.
The Fighting Scots start their season off in the warm weather. They will travel to Florida for spring break to play Fitchburg State and Kean March 13 and March 15.
They will begin CCC play against Nichols at home March 24.
