The first annual “Clash of the Tartans” was held from January 25-29. The ultimate goal of this friendly, fundraising competition was bragging rights between the Gordon College Dance Team, Women’s Basketball Team, and Men’s Basketball Team along with an additional $500 toward their respective fundraising goals.

The proceeds donated to the Dance Team will go toward a variety of things that include attending Nationals in Florida next year, brand new warm-up gear and costumes, and a guest choreographer to develop and teach new routines.

The team is now in its second year since being named an official varsity sport. Captain Kayla Leonard (‘19) had this to say about the fundraising, “We received a grand total of $2,169 which was more than we ever expected. Having so many people give to the campaign gave us added validation that people really enjoy watching what we do.”.

The proceeds donated to the Women’s Basketball Team will go towards a much needed, lockable ball rack, Synergy Sports Technology player video access which provides players with unlimited access to a secure website for game analytics, a cowboy remote to help navigate the footage, and new warm-up shirts.

The Scots are currently 6-7 in conference, making them 7th place in the CCC. The women had a total of 68 gifts totaling a whopping $3,316— not mentioning the $500 additional prize for the most gifts donated. Senior forward Kristen Smith (‘18) had this to say about the fundraising, “When people donate to the program, it makes us feel valued and supported which is nice.”

Lastly, the proceeds donated to the Men’s Basketball Team will go towards an overseas mission trip to Argentina in summer 2019 with Sports Ambassadors. The men had 11 gifts totaling $1,380. The money will surely go towards a greater purpose than basketball. The Scots are currently 9-4 in conference play, ranking them in a three way tie for 2nd place.
