Josh Cochran sets the bar high for every student athlete.

Cochran has received presidential honors each semester, worked as a teaching assistant for both the chemistry and biology departments, and has completed numerous internships over the summer. He is studying Biology, and with that, hopes to become a dentist after graduate school.

“I interviewed at three school last week” says Cochran. His ultimate decision will put him on track for another 4 years of study in order to pursue dentistry.

Without dwelling too much on the future, Cochran is still continuing to be an active member of Gordon’s community. Just last year he was working alongside Vice President for Finance Mike Ahearn, as he observed the ins and outs of a professional career.

Being a Presidential Fellow is a strenuous time commitment, but with dedication and tenacity, he was able to balance both soccer and academics.

“I remember I was jogging to class in a suit, and from class immediately running over to Jenks to change into my uniform for my soccer game that was happening on the quad.”

It is hard to juggle both but Cochran continues to pursue other extra curricular activities. He is a member of Gordon College Alzheimer’s Buddies which goes to an assisted living facility on Sundays to hang out with a people with different stages of dementia. This is his third year participating this community outreach opportunity.

Outside of Gordon, he helped out with Gordon’s summer soccer camps and worked as an intern clinical assistant at an Orthodontics near his home in Mansfield, Ohio.

Despite his busy schedule,  Cochran tries continue to participate in the Gordon community. “I don’t want to just identify as a soccer player” says Cochran.

He urges other athletes to not limit their level of engagement with the student body just because you’re an athlete. He adds, “Find other places to serve and get involve and engage with others outside your team”.
