If you ever come to my house, I will probably try to feed you. Whether I made food, brought home leftovers or brought you to a restaurant, it’s important to me that you eat well when you’re with me, a trait I probably inherited from my Brazilian family. Here’s my promise: to the best of my abilities, I will never betray your taste buds. If I’m writing about food, it’s because more than anything, I want you to go out and enjoy it. So here’s the story on the best burger deal in town.

Fibber McGee’s is a bar at the end of Cabot Street and the spot for a delicious burger. They’ve got a great jukebox, a good drink selection and half priced burgers on Wednesdays (note, drink purchase is required). I went with my roommates, and we decided to order the Gold Rush, PBJ and Bacon and the Homemade Veggie burgers. All of these burgers were served with lettuce, tomato and onion and a side of fries or onion rings.

The PBJ and Bacon has a peanut chipotle sauce, strawberry balsamic sauce, cheddar jack cheese, and crispy bacon strips layered over the burger. The patty was cooked perfectly, retaining the juiciness and flavor of the meat. The bun had been toasted inside, adding crispness to those first few bites. The peanut chipotle sauce had an almost creamy, fine, grainy texture – like a pear, but even finer – with little peanut bits and was the most intense flavor. The tomato, onion and strawberry balsamic added a little acidity and sweetness but took a backseat to the peanut chipotle sauce. Final judgment: if you don’t love peanut butter, don’t get it. If you do and love a new culinary experience, this is the way to go.

The veggie burger was just an excellent burger, very flavorful and worth a try regardless of whether you eat meat. Draped over the patty was a melted layer of provolone cheese, looking so beautiful you almost don’t want to bite into it – almost. The black bean patty was well seasoned and had crispy onion bits throughout it, making for a pleasantly inconsistent texture. Because the bean patty was so rich, the tomato and onion added freshness and acidity for a perfectly balanced burger. Final judgment: vegetarians, it’s worth dropping in. Burger fundamentalists, this is the time to try something new.

Finally, the Gold Rush burger: my favorite burger of the night, and the one I will be going back to Fibber’s for. It’s topped with caramelized onions, roasted poblano peppers, a sweet Gold Rush sauce, and bleu cheese dressing. The burger was so juicy and saucy, the mild tangy creaminess of the bleu cheese combining beautifully with the sweetness of the Gold Rush sauce. Roasted poblanos added a smoky and spicy touch, balancing out the richness of the dressing and sauce. Layered over it was a cheese that wasn’t specified on the menu, but it was both aesthetically pleasing and delicious. Every bite was a new revelation into how delicious this burger was. Final judgment: if you love burgers, and you love something saucy, don’t even think twice.
