The Gordon Women’s field hockey team always prays before and after games. And win or lose, they make sure to always give the glory to God.
On Sept 30th, Homecoming Weekend, the team suffered a tough loss against Roger Williams. The Scots had seven shot attempts to Roger Williams’ 5 in the first period. In the second period, sophomore Sabrina Jandreau ‘20 scored her first goal of the season, and was assisted by senior Emily Allcroft ‘17. “The goal was a collective effort from everyone” says Jandreau. She adds, “I couldn’t have scored the goal if it weren’t for everyone out there playing with me”. Shortly after, another goal was shot, but this time it was from the Hawks. In the final few minutes of the third period, Gordon had zero shot attempts and had no activity for a whole 4 minutes.
To make things even more bitter, Roger Williams scored with one second to go, putting them up 2-1. Now, the Scots have a record of 3-6 after playing Endicott and New England College. “Roger Williams always gives us a good fight, and even though our game on Homecoming wasn’t the result we were looking for, we took what went wrong from the game and applied it to our next practice” says Jandreau. She adds, “We’re constantly evolving in terms of seeing the field and learning how our teammates play, so it’s awesome to see drills from practices implemented into games”.
With teams like Tufts and Babson coming up, the Scots are preparing to be as strong and more resilient than their competitors. “Playing those teams will give us the ability to challenge ourselves and our teammates to achieve more together” says Jandreau.
The field hockey team has added five freshmen to the mix. There are new contributions being made by each player. The Scots have some tough competition ahead, but they are willing to give it all in order to finish the 2017 season strong.
