On October 13, Gordon’s student-run radio station, Scot Radio, hosted The Scot Radio Fall Kickoff to promote the various on-air shows that students can tune into. Seven of the shows were represented at the event by their hosts.
“My discussions are super random,” said “Life with Court” host Courtney MacDougall ’19. “I sometimes talk about awkward and embarrassing stories that have happened to me,” she added.
MacDougall said she also has guests who come in from time to time to dictate the conversation on the show, which airs Tuesdays nights from 8:30 to 9 p.m. MacDougall shared that she usually reaches out to people to come on her show, but there have been times when they reach out to her.
Following “Life with Court” is a show entitled “Chicks in the Booth,” starring seniors and first-time radio hosts Jenna Fabio and Hannah Denney. “It’s a lighthearted show,” Fabio said. “We don’t talk about anything too serious, just things that are funny,” she added, specifically highlighting how the two discuss pop culture. Fabio said that she and Denney receive a lot of text-ins during the show, which also allows for new discussion.
Alexia Rowe ‘21 was also present at The Scot Radio Fall Kickoff, representing her show entitled “The Unique Voices Club.” Rowe said she touches upon different music genres and singing styles on her show, which is scheduled to air every Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m. “I play unique voices that have never been heard of,” she shared.
The “GC Talks” radio show, hosted by Chase Tipton ’21 and Geevon Allen ’21, focuses on the never-ending debate over which coast is the best coast. Tipton, who is from California, and Allen, who is from New York City, said that each week they choose a different topic and battle with each other to prove who has it better: the West coast or the East coast. Tipton also explained another unique element of the show, which airs on Fridays at 9 p.m. “We like to start the show off by reading Snapple facts,” he said at the Kickoff. “Then, we like to hear from students who have emailed or Facebook messaged us,” he added.
The fifth show represented at the Scot Radio event, appropriately titled “The Blender,” is a combination of everything, said hosts Kaytlynn Godwin ’21 and Sofia Jeanes ’21.
The two said that they talk about anything from Broadway, top picks, and Disney throwbacks to different music genres and even posts from the Overheard at Gordon Facebook page.
“We take song requests from people and have created theme songs for each of the dorms on campus,” Godwin said. She also said that she and Jeanes plan to feature live artists on the show, which airs on Tuesdays.
Airing on Thursdays at 8 p.m., Scot Radio’s “The Eternal View” takes a section of the Bible and digs deeply into it. Hosts Matthew Esters ’21 and Marco Antunes ’21 “want to help people gain a better understanding of the Word and how the Bible brings meaning to our lives,” Esters said.
Antunes, a Christian Ministries major, said he plays the “bad cop” on the show, while Esters, a Business Administration Major, plays the “good cop.” Students can email Antunes and Esters with their questions, comments, prayer requests, and future topics at [email protected].
The last show host present at the Scott Radio Fall Kickoff was Jonathan “Juice” Wacker ‘18 of “The Madmen on Air,” a radio spin-off of Gordon’s improv group, The Sweaty Tooth Madmen. Wacker is joined by guests with whom he discusses theatre and comedy, he said. “Conversations go all over the place,” he added. “The Madmen on Air” takes place on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m.
