After four years as the head coach of Gordon College men’s soccer, Derek Potteiger has accepted the position of head men’s soccer coach at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Lee is an NCAA Division II university and member of the Gulf South Conference (GSC).

Potteiger said, “There are a lot of things I will miss about coaching at Gordon – 4 years of really good memories – but more than anything I will miss the people.  My players most of all, but also the families, the athletics staff, and so many others that I have been fortunate enough to meet or work with over the years.”

While at Gordon, Potteiger led the program to a Commonwealth Coast Conference title in 2015. From there, the Scots went to Lancaster, PA. for the NCAA tournament, where they were ranked sixth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Regional Poll.

Potteiger was also named the CCC Coach of the Year in 2013 and has coached players to regional and national recognitions.

According to the College’s athletic website, Athletic Director Jon Tymann said, “We are very grateful to Derek for the foundation and culture he built for Gordon Men’s soccer, this program has taken great strides under his care and we look forward to what the future has in store as the torch is passed to a new coach.”

With a solid foundation under their feet, Potteiger hopes that “the momentum that has been created over the last 4 years only serves to propel the team forward under the new coach and his staff.”
