Letter From the New Editorial Intern

Editorial Intern, Kailee Polanco

Dear readers,

Fall leaves and breezes are just starting to hit campus, and with them a familiar feeling of new beginnings. As this new academic year starts, my new beginning will be in the role of Editorial Intern here at The Tartan!

A brief introduction: I am currently in my senior year, but this is actually only my second year here at Gordon. Prior to Gordon I was attending The King’s College In New York City before it closed in 2023 (If you recall how Eastern Nazarene College closed just last year, King’s had a similar demise).  It goes without saying that living in Wenham, Massachusetts is far different than living in Brooklyn, NY, but I am personally grateful that I get the rare opportunity to live in so many beautiful places of the country. I will always love New York and my home state of Texas, but the Northshore has truly impressed me with all of its unfamiliar yet beautiful sights.

While contemplating what I should include for my first letter from the editor, I kept coming back to the simple idea of gratitude. In only a handful of weeks I have already felt so welcomed by the team here at The Tartan, even as we are all hyper focused on deadlines, drafts, and editing. I couldn’t have asked for a better team.

As a communications Arts major, I get to engage in many different forms of media such as graphic design, photography, videography, etc., but journalism has always captured a very specific interest of mine. I love writing, and I love being part of a team that also has that same sense of curiosity that I do that drives us all to hopefully produce captivating stories. This is something that I have most definitely been able to witness at The Tartan.

To the readers, I am so excited to get to serve you this semester in this role and make your voices heard to the best of my abilities. Your eagerness to also participate in this creative endeavor is highly appreciated. When we all contribute our unique voices, we can make sure students’ opinions are portrayed in an honest way.

Warm thanks to you all, and cheers to an amazing year!
