Letter From the Editor-in-Chief

The Tartan Editor-in-Chief, Presley Beal
Editor-In-Chief, Presley Beal, class of 2026

Welcome back readers,

I have been in leadership for almost all of my time on The Tartan staff. I began as Managing Editor in the Spring of my freshman year, after only being a Staff Writer for my first Fall semester. My time at The Tartan has been a large portion of my time at Gordon. Though thankfully not quite over yet, I have seen this publication change and move. I have seen the student body submit stories as seemingly little as experience pieces and then shift to write big opinion pieces that they don’t even know if I can publish. When appropriate, which it usually is, I publish these stories. The Tartan was created in the 1950s to mirror the student body. Through college media, readers, editors, parents, professors, and every high-up leader of the college gets an inside look on what their students are mourning over, excited about, and deeply affected by.

So, The Tartan does not intentionally lean a certain way just to be opinionated. The Tartan reflects what Gordon students are thinking about and thoroughly feeling. As Editor-in-Chief, it is my job to be in touch with the student body, swallow any pride I have, and read and publish these opinion pieces for the rest of the student body to debate with, internally or externally. As we adult, it’s time to think about real things. College goes by too fast to stay in a bubble for three or four years and ignore the events going on in the world. Find your opinion, be in communication with God about it, stand on it with confidence, and debate in love.

Love and etc.
