I know I’m not the only one who’s been spotting Business Society everywhere lately. Posters in Jenks Library, at the Scottie Fair, event flyers in public spaces… and like many of you, I caught myself wondering: Didn’t we already have a business club?
Well, we did—and now it’s evolved into the Business Society. This isn’t just a name change; it’s a full-on rebrand with new initiatives, structured chapters, and a stronger professional focus that will require more commitment but offer a lot of benefits in return.
“We wanted to kind of up it in terms of providing more and more resources for people,” said Greg Smith, Associate Professor in the Practice of Business and Marketing and faculty advisor for the Business Society.
These resources now include networking opportunities, alumni connections, career preparation workshops, and other tools designed to prepare students for life after college. In addition to this, members receive business cards, a pin, and recognition as they graduate.
There is a place for everybody in the society, and this is reflected in its chapters, which include Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Accounting & Finance, Investment, and Women in Business.
The society is already making moves, kicking off the semester with an ice cream social event—giving students a chance to connect among themselves and with faculty.
On September 17th, there is an opportunity to visit KingFish+ Partners, a marketing agency in Beverly. And coming up on September 23rd, students can look forward to hearing from Gordon alum Elizabeth Lascaze, who will be sharing her journey at Deloitte along with her experiences and advice for students.
Site visits and hearing directly from people working in the industry are a vital part of what makes the Business Society stand out. They give students a firsthand look at the professional world, practical insight into career paths, and the chance to learn lessons they can’t always get in the classroom.
The Business Society isn’t just a club anymore. It’s an investment in your future.
