On Oct. 30, Gordon’s Cross-Country Team headed towards Western New England University in Springfield, MA.
Coach Wikerd said, “It was a beautiful, cool day. The course is not a fast course. It is quite technical and about 70 percent of the race is on a single track winding trail.”
For this competition, the women entered a 6K, even though they usually compete in a 5K. The men, however, continued in their regular race, the 8K.
On the women’s side, Angie Epplett ‘20 had a quick start, as did Louisa Dodds ‘18. They both had a strong finish. Another highlight on the women’s side was Sarah DeGenero ‘19 who ran a personal record through the 5K and finished strong in her 6km race.
On the men’s side, Damon Kilgore ‘18 won his race and earned Runner of the Year for the CCC for the second consecutive year. Both Jesse Edwards ‘18 and Chandler Hansen ‘19 led the Gordon pack and ran behind Kilgore for most of the race.
“Overall, it went well. I was pleased with the effort everyone put out on the course,” said Coach Wikerd.
Both women and men placed 6th at the meet.
The Scots are scheduled to compete in the New England Regionals on Nov. 12 at Westfield State University. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM and the men’s race at 12:00 PM.
