Colleges collide tonight as Endicott College’s Professor of Creative Writing Dan Skylar presents some of his work to the Gordon community.
Skylar, a poet, playwright and professor, will be reading a selection of his works tonight at 7:30 in the Barrington Center of the Arts, Cinema room 138.
Skylar was recently published in the Poetry East, Harvard Review, Square Lake, Rhino, July Literary Press, Paper Street, Atlanta Review, The English Journal, New York Quarterly, Kenning Journal, redbridge, Barbaric Yawp, The American Dissident, and The Art of the One-Act.
The poet commented on his perspective of poetry: “I take seriously what Ezra Pound said, ‘make poetry new.’ I do not want to write like anyone else, if that’s possible. I want to create new forms of poetry. Sure, I have been influenced by many writers who write differently than I do, whether it is in style, theme, or topics, but I respect all forms and styles of poetry.”
A few of his poems can be found in his book, Bicycles, Canoes, Drums. His plays have been performed locally in the Boston Theater Marathon at the Actors’ Studio in Newburyport.
Doors open at 7:30pm at the Barrington Cinema Room 138.
