The annual white-out men’s and women’s basketball games drew crowds of students, alumni, parents and community dwellers. Labeled as “The Clash of the Tartans,” the event was sponsored by the Athletics department with the help and support of the Gordon Student Ambassadors.
When interviewed, Ambassador Jessica Wright (‘18) explained the purpose of the event as being one “just for school spirit and getting people to come out and support all of our fellow athletics, because they work so hard throughout the whole year and it’s an opportunity to come together as a whole school.”
This year’s white-out game occured during the Gordon Fighting Scots versus Nichols Bison.
The first time Gordon played Nichols in this year’s conference season, both Gordon teams lost after a tough fight. However, the second clash was met with resolve.
The Lady Scots played first and was full of intensity. Their previous encounter with Nichols had left them with a desire for revenge. Captain Jenna Olson (‘18) alongside forward Kristen Smith (‘18) had a few thoughts on this topic.
“Well, it’s hard to not look at a team and your past experiences with them; whether you won or lost,” Smith explains.
“We needed revenge” Olson added.
Coming out strong from the beginning they maintained the lead from the first time they scored in the first fifteen seconds of the game to the very last second when they won by a twenty point difference.
With eyes on the basket and minds set on revenge, the Lady Scots decimated Nichols with a final score of 65-45 taking in another victory in conference.
The men’s team was next to take on the team who walked away as victors the last game.
Although the fighting Scots were unsuccessful in securing a win, they managed to shrink the point gap that stood in their way from their previous game against Nichols this season.
Both teams are coming up on the close of their season. The senior showcasings for the Lady Scots will happen on Saturday, February 3rd during their home game against Western New England.
